Venice Treacle
Friday 17th October – 7.30pm
Chew Stoke Village Hall, Chew Stoke
Venice Treacle craft a distinct fusion of angular punk and experimental grooves, confronting modern chaos with sharp lyricism, tense rhythms, and a sound that is both thought-provoking and relentlessly immersive.
Venice Treacle create a sound that’s hard to pin down but impossible to ignore: a heady blend of groove-laced quirk punk and deranged disco they’ve dubbed Quank. With right-angled riffs, unexpected harmonies, and infectious rhythms, their music dances between chaos and clarity—confronting themes like the end of the world, ice worms, and privatised police states, all with a sly grin.
Formed by long-time collaborators Nick Oil and Mondel Plasmid—veterans of Camden’s 90s underground scene—the band came to full power in 2024 with the addition of Ritalian and K-Boy, bringing a rhythm section tight enough to stretch and snap.
Now scattered across Bristol, Exeter, and Cornwall, Venice Treacle are inspired by the likes of Sonic Youth, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Captain Beefheart, and Can. Critics and fans say they sound like Squid, Talking Heads, or even Heston Blumenthal covering Wishbone Ash.
Their debut EP, Modern Elixir, is out now on Quanksquatch Records, with airplay from BBC Introducing. The songs are strange, urgent, oddly danceable—full of poetic resistance and surreal humour.
Venice Treacle isn’t here to calm the madness. They’re here to soundtrack it. Take a spoonful. Let it move your feet and mess with your head.
